Sandalyn Wilderness Estate 2002 ShirazA lot of people talk about the “big hunter shiraz” but its been my experience that the vast quantity of them don’t even come close to what I would call a “big shiraz”.

The Sandalyn Estate, however, is one of the few exceptions. They were selling their 2002 in 2007 and after a long day of rather weak and watery wine it was a real standout.

Not too overpowering, but just enough depth of flavour with lovely earthy coffee overtones.

Would go down well with a greek style lemon and oregano slow roast lamb.

In Summary ...
Vintage: 2002
Variety:
Region: Hunter Valley (NSW)
Rating:
Verdict: A standout hunter shiraz
