A lot of people talk about the “big hunter shiraz” but its been my experience that the vast quantity of them don’t even come close to what I would call a “big shiraz”.
The Sandalyn Estate, however, is one of the few exceptions. They were selling their 2002 in 2007 and after a long day of rather weak and watery wine it was a real standout.
Not too overpowering, but just enough depth of flavour with lovely earthy coffee overtones.
Would go down well with a greek style lemon and oregano slow roast lamb.
