Carpineto Chianti Castaldo 2006

I picked up this cheap ($16) bottle of Chianti the other day at Dan Murphys purely for cooking with figuring I would only use half a bottle and would enjoy the other half myself.

I always worry buying cheap bottles of imported wine. With the current exchange rate $16 AUD = about 9 EURO.

Take into account taxes, freight costs and profit margins for retailers and I figure your $16 bottle here is probably equivalent to a $2 bottle of plonk in Tuscany frowned upon by the locals and bearing a stigma worse than cask wine.

This is a very light wine with no real body but all things considered surprisingly tasty.

Ruby red in colour it’s a very easy drinking wine. I wouldn’t rush out and buy a case, but as far as cooking wines go, I wouldn’t tip the rest of the bottle down the drain like I have some cleanskins.

In Summary ...
Vintage: 2006
Variety:
Region: Chianti (Italy)
Rating:
Verdict: I wouldn''t tip the rest of the bottle down the drain like I have some cleanskins.
